Parking
A General Note about Traffic and Parking
We know that trucks are disruptive to our neighbors, and to residential traffic patterns. Right now, our team parks on site, and we instruct all trucks about our traffic flow. We ask them to avoid Lehmann Court, and we request that they stage their trucks offsite in order to minimize local inconvenience. Unfortunately, first-time drivers are sometimes unaware of our protocols. When they show up, we let them know where they should go.
The Post Office and Local Parking
Despite given verbal and written notice for well over a year, the Post Office was not nimble in responding to the loss of the parking lot it had formerly used for its delivery vehicles.
In June, a 90-day notice was issued regarding the end of their lease, at which point there were even more intense and regular reminders to the post office—up and down the chain of command.
Thanks so much to our neighbors, who also weighed in, communicating with elected officials and even with the Postmaster General of the United States.
Note: Post Office vehicles enjoy federal immunity from most parking restrictions, and so the City of Chicago cannot enforce most parking regulations that they may commit.
Parking is always at a premium in Lincoln Park, and we appreciate the inconvenience our project may cause. We will advise all contractors and visitors to the site to respect all parking regulations, as well as inform them of off-street options, including garages at 2555 N Clark Street and at 2650 N Lakeview Avenue.
We are encouraging all contractors and visitors to the site to avoid parking on Lehman to minimize any conflicts with ongoing USPS operations during the course of construction.
